The “Up-Sailing – Cultivating Green Skills in the Maritime Sector” project, developed under the ERASMUS+ program (KA220-VET-0000347000), has delivered a comprehensive set of Policy Recommendations aimed at addressing the evolving green skills needs within the maritime industry.
These recommendations are the culmination of insights gathered through a series of interviews, workshops, questionnaires, and participation in key industry events. Input was gathered from shipowners, VET providers, and other essential stakeholders within the maritime sector.
The results, fully described in the Up-Sailing PR4 Deliverable, have laid the foundation for these Policy Recommendations, which seek to inspire a meaningful shift towards more sustainable practices in the maritime industry. These recommendations are now ready to be disseminated to national and EU-level representatives and stakeholders.
The Policy Recommendations reflect the current state of green skills development as determined by the project’s activities, which were conducted across all project results. However, to remain relevant and effective, these recommendations must be periodically updated to match the ever-changing skill demands of the maritime industry. This continuous evolution ensures that training programs and maritime curricula are kept current with technological and environmental advancements.
The primary focus of these recommendations is at the EU level, with the goal of supporting long-term strategies for visibility and sustainability, ensuring the maritime industry is well-prepared to address the growing need for green skills. The document is also available on the project’s website for public access, marking a critical step toward fostering a greener, more sustainable future in maritime practices.
