EVBB: Empowering Europe's Vocational Education and Training for 31 Years and Beyond

The European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB) has a rich history that began on December 14, 1992, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Founded by Dr. Adalbert Kitsche, the organization was established with a clear vision in mind: to provide a voice to independent non-profit education providers and to promote high-quality vocational education and training across Europe.

In its early years, EVBB focused on gaining recognition within the European sphere of education and training and sought acknowledgment from relevant European institutions. This recognition was crucial as it allowed EVBB to advocate for the interests and needs of vocational training providers effectively.

EVBB’s dedication to ensuring high-quality education and training was commendable. Long before “quality management” became a widespread concept, the association positioned itself as a pioneer for a “quality seal community.” This commitment to maintaining excellence in education extended beyond the mainstream, as EVBB actively sought to support and uplift the disadvantaged members of society.

As the years passed, EVBB continued to make significant strides in the European education landscape. Its headquarters eventually moved to Brussels, Belgium, granting the association unique access to the institutions of the European Union. This strategic relocation enabled EVBB to engage with policymakers and decision-makers directly, further amplifying its impact on vocational education and training across Europe.

International conferences held in prominent locations throughout Europe became an annual highlight of EVBB’s activities. These conferences not only facilitated knowledge exchange but also brought together stakeholders, fostering collaborations that strengthened the association’s mission.

Today, EVBB stands tall as the European umbrella association of non-profit providers of Vocational Education and Training (VET). With over 300 members representing both the private and public sectors, EVBB covers all fields related to initial, advanced, and further education and training. Its overarching objective remains the qualitative improvement of vocational education and training, not only in Europe but also beyond its borders.

Looking back over the past 31 years, we can take immense pride in the accomplishments of EVBB. The organization’s dedication to the vision of Europe and its unwavering commitment to the cause of vocational training have driven significant positive changes in the field.

As EVBB moves forward, it will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of vocational education and training in Europe, paving the way for a skilled and empowered workforce for years to come.
