DigiGEAR
DigiGEAR – Introducing Augmented Reality in the VET sector with a focus on the Automotive Engineering sector aims at making a significant impact in the VET field introducing AR technology as a complement to the traditional classroom-based training. To achieve this, we aim to develop an AR platform and accompanying training materials, followed by a pilot phase to ensure effectiveness. Practical experience is vital in technical fields like Automotive Engineering. Therefore, our objective is to provide learners with a safe and controlled environment to gain hands-on experience, thus improving the overall effectiveness of VET. Furthermore, we aim to raise awareness about the benefits of VET and promote the use of AR technologies in education and training. By showcasing the advantages of this approach, we aim to address shared needs and foster innovation in the sector. In parallel, we envision establishing a robust network of VET providers and industry partners to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Objectives of the project
Need:
- Developing more innovative and engaging learning methods that can help to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience through augmented environments
- Increasing the attractiveness of VET by offering learners the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a safe and controlled environment
- Addressing the digital transformation of VET by developing the digital readiness, resilience, and capacity of VET providers and learners
- Providing learners with access to advanced training materials and tools that are specifically designed for the Automotive Engineering sector and the emerging industry skills that are linked with the latest developments on the use of AR technologies for educational environments
- Improving the quality of training and education in the Automotive Engineering sector, and to ensure that learners are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in these fields
- Many vocational education and training programs struggle to provide students with hands-on experience due to the high cost and risks associated with practicing on real-world equipment. DigiGEAR aims to address this need by providing a safe and controlled augmented environment for learners to practice technical skills and procedures
- Improving the quality of VET programs: With the Pilot implementation of DigiGEAR Training Package through the developed AR platform as well as through the Facilitators Training, we aim to extract strengths and weaknesses of the training both from VET tutors and learns in order to promote active learning and knowledge retention
- Fostering the development of digital skills: As the world becomes increasingly digital, there is a growing need for individuals to develop digital skills in order to remain competitive in the job market. DigiGEAR aims to address this need by introducing learners and VET providers to new technologies and providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to use these technologies effectively
The project aims to deliver engaging interactive learning materials, such as 3D Models and AR senarios, that can be used to teach technical skills (2nd Objective) to improve the caliber and relevance of activities. Accordingly, to improve the effectiveness of VET by offering learners the opportunity to gain practical experience in a safe and controlled environment (3rd Objective) while enhancing the quality of learning experience. Moreover, to raise awareness about the benefits of VET and promote the use of AR technologies in education and training (4th Objective) while encountering shared needs. In addition, DigiGEAR envisages to create a solid network of VET providers and industry partners to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration in the field of AR for VET (5th Objective) promoting organisations’ capacity to work internationally and across sectors, facilitating transformation at differentiated levels.
The main targets are VET trainers and VET learners.
