VET4EU2 Welcomes the Appointment of Ylva Johansson as Chair of the European Commission Skills High-Level Board

The VET4EU2 network has welcomed the appointment of former Commissioner Ylva Johansson as Chair of the European Commission’s Skills High-Level Board.

As communicated through official European Commission channels, the Chair will guide the Board’s mission to strengthen people’s skills and talents across the European Union. The Board forms part of the Union of Skills initiative and will provide strategic guidance on skills development, bringing together businesses, education and training providers, and social partners to support the creation of a skilled and adaptable workforce.

VET4EU2 associations recognise the strong alignment between the Board’s objectives and the work carried out by vocational education and training networks across Europe. Representing millions of learners and staff, VET organisations play a vital role in addressing workforce needs, supporting innovation in teaching and learning, and strengthening links between education systems and labour markets. Their contribution also complements the evidence expected from the upcoming European Skills Intelligence Observatory.

As natural partners to small and medium-sized enterprises, VET providers help connect training to employment opportunities while preparing professionals for current and future labour market demands. This experience positions the VET4EU2 network as a constructive contributor to the work of the Skills High-Level Board.

The associations expressed confidence that Ms Johansson’s leadership and experience will support the success of the initiative and reaffirmed their readiness to engage actively with the Board. Building on ongoing dialogue with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, VET4EU2 looks forward to contributing evidence from the VET field and exchanging views with the Chair in the coming weeks.
