About VIA Don Bosco

VIA Don Bosco is a Belgian NGO that has been working for the quality education of young people for over fifty years. Inspired by Salesian pedagogy, we support and finance technical and vocational schools in 15 countries—including Belgium—empowering youth to acquire first-rate technical skills and essential life skills for social integration and the job market Each year, our programmes give more than 20,000 young people access to quality education—43% are girls—through capacity-building, employment offices, teacher training, and support to 90+ partners Aligned with SDGs 1, 4, 5 and 8, we strengthen local education systems for inclusive, decent work futures. We also actively support young people in finding or developing decent jobs. In Belgium, our global citizenship education—launched in 2003—builds critical, responsible, active, and solidarity-minded students. Through hands-on projects like “School 4 School” and “School 2 School,” interactive workshops, and international classroom partnerships, students reflect on injustice, consumer choices, and shared responsibility, becoming informed global citizens. By bridging global and local, VIA Don Bosco fosters just, inclusive and sustainable futures for youth everywhere.

Achievements

  • Expanding Access to Education: VIA Don Bosco supports 74 technical and vocational schools, enabling thousands of young people to graduate each year. This has significantly increased access to quality vocational education in 15 countries.
  • Promoting Gender Equality: About 40% of the youth reached are girls, with programs specifically designed to empower them in traditionally male-dominated fields. These efforts foster equal opportunities and greater inclusion in the workforce.
  • Building Local Capacity: Each year, around 1,300 teachers participate in VIA Don Bosco programs, with 1,000 receiving training and professional development. This strengthens local schools and ensures sustainable educational impact.
  • Supporting Employment and Entrepreneurship: VIA Don Bosco provides guidance for youth transitioning to work or starting businesses. This support helps young people achieve independent and dignified livelihoods.
  • Fostering Global Awareness: Initiatives like School4School engage youth in Belgium to contribute to social change and global citizenship. This nurtures socially responsible and active young leaders.
