The much-awaited European Tourism Day 2023 has finally arrived after 5 years, drawing tourism stakeholders from all corners of Europe to convene in Brussels. This momentous day encompasses keynote speeches, discussions, and round tables, focusing on the paramount goal of achieving a complete and sustainable transition of the tourism ecosystem. As a key sector across the 14 industrial ecosystems, tourism holds immense significance, supporting 20 million jobs and contributing to 10% of the EU GDP.
The opening speeches by Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, and Karima Delli, chairwoman of the transport and tourism committee of the European Parliament, set the stage for two core aspects in driving a just tourism transition. They emphasize the importance of co-creation with all stakeholders and offering training and competencies for the jobs of the future. At EVBB, we play our part by providing regional platforms of cooperation for vocational excellence in tourism, delivering transnational added value for the internationalization of training, and fostering cooperation with European stakeholders to align local aspirations with a shared European vision for the future of tourism.
In addition, this event serves as a remarkable opportunity to gather with partners from our tourism initiatives – TourX, TOURing Project, and the EU Pact for Skills, uniting all our efforts in one place and propelling us forward together towards a sustainable future across the globe.
