European Day of VET 2025: EVBB, EVTA, and EfVET Reaffirm Their Commitment to Excellence in Vocational Education and Training

Brussels, Belgium | 26 May 2025

In a powerful show of unity and forward-thinking ambition, the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB), the European Vocational Training Association (EVTA), and the European Forum of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (EfVET) came together to celebrate the European Day of VET.

Held shortly after the official date of 24 May, the event served as a platform to reinforce the shared vision of these three major European networks: to make vocational education and training a first-choice pathway for learners and professionals alike. The celebration also built upon the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023, signalling a deepened commitment to collaboration and the advancement of VET across Europe and beyond.

The event opened with a networking lunch, offering participants the opportunity to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and reflect on the achievements of the VET community in a dynamic and informal setting.

The VET We Are Building

James Calleja, President of EfVET, delivered an opening speech titled “The VET We Are Building: Our Goals for Excellence”. He spoke passionately about the need to continue elevating VET through innovation, inclusivity, and strong engagement with industry and learners. His address emphasized the importance of ensuring VET’s relevance in an evolving labour market and the shared responsibility to deliver quality, accessible pathways for all.

Panel Discussion: Voices from Future-looking VET

Moderated by Giulia Meschino, Secretary General of EVTA, the panel featured powerful voices and forward-looking initiatives from across the VET landscape:

  • Andrea Lombardi (Uniser) shared insights on empowering learner mobility and the added value of transnational experiences.
  • Laura Pauwels and Diederik Roelandts highlighted lessons learned from a meaningful internship experience in Malta.
  • Danjiela Manic explored the specific challenges and opportunities in developing VET systems in third countries, with a focus on the Western Balkans.
  • Piero Fabris and Benedetta Cassarini presented Horizon: World, a future-oriented initiative connecting sustainability and global learning.
  • Minh-Huy, representing Generation, discussed strategies to increase employability through tailored support and targeted skill development.

Launch of the Action Plan for ONE VOICE

A key milestone of the event was the official launch of the Action Plan for ONE VOICE, a strategic roadmap that lays out concrete steps for greater synergy between EVBB, EVTA, and EfVET. The plan envisions stronger policy coordination, unified advocacy, and deeper cooperation to elevate the role of VET in responding to Europe’s green and digital transitions.

Final Reflections and the Path Forward

The event concluded with remarks from Theodor Grassos, Secretary General of EVBB, who reaffirmed the networks’ long-term vision for a VET sector that is agile, inclusive, and future proof. He called for sustained collaboration across sectors and borders and highlighted the collective responsibility to ensure that vocational education continues to meet the needs of learners and societies alike.
