About Humana People to People

Humana People to People (HPP) is a leading international network of 29 NGOs, with more than 40 years of experience in education, skills, and sustainable development. Depending on the country, its member organisations are known as HPP, ADPP, or DAPP. A cornerstone of our work is Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), aimed at tackling youth unemployment and strengthening community resilience. HPP operates 16 TVET colleges across Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, located mainly in rural and peri-urban areas where access to training is scarce. Together, these colleges have a combined annual training capacity of 2,710 students, with additional reach through short courses and community-based outreach initiatives. In Europe, HPP also has member organisations with experience in the field of TVET, such has Humana Spain and Humana Italy. Our model combines practical, job-oriented training, entrepreneurship, and life skills. Internships and apprenticeships constitute a substantial part of study time, ensuring learning is directly connected to workplace realities. Training is provided in key sectors such as sustainable agriculture, construction, hospitality, renewable energy, welding and fabrication, textiles and garment production, and community development. Recognising limited formal job opportunities, our programmes place strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and small business development, enabling graduates to create livelihoods and stimulate local economies. Mobile and outreach training models further extend access to remote and underserved youth, including women, people with disabilities, displaced populations, and migrants. Curricula also integrate green skills, preparing learners for emerging opportunities in sustainable economies and climate resilience. By combining scale, a proven methodology, and strong partnerships with governments, private sector, donors, and civil society, HPP demonstrates a clear capacity to deliver inclusive, high-quality vocational education. Graduates emerge as active contributors in their rural and peri-urban communities — as small business owners, leaders, and role models who drive positive change beyond the classroom.

Achievements

  • Scale and Reach: Operates 16 vocational colleges in eight African countries, mainly in rural and peri-urban areas, with a combined annual capacity of 2,710 students. Access is further expanded through short courses, mobile training units, and outreach programmes.
  • Donor Partnerships and Project Expertise: Member of the European Training Foundation’s Network for Excellence (ENE) and a trusted partner of leading donors such as the European Union (e.g. EuropeAid/NDICI, Erasmus+), GIZ, Enabel, MFA Finland, AECID, the African Development Bank (AfDB), as well as several private foundations. With over 40 years of experience in developing proposals and implementing donor-funded projects, Humana has built a strong track record in strengthening skills systems, advancing green and inclusive vocational training, and delivering impact at scale.
  • Continental Partnerships: Works closely with the African Union Commission (AUC) and AUDA-NEPAD to promote relevant skills ecosystems in Africa, contributing to policy agendas and strengthening the role of TVET in continental development strategies. Africa Skills Revolution: In 2024, co-launched the Africa Skills Revolution with AUDA-NEPAD under the African Union’s Year for Education. The initiative mobilised youth voices across the continent, produced the Pan-African Youth Voices Report, and showcased TVET innovation through a continental competition, reframing skills development as central to Africa’s future.
  • Effective TVET Model: Delivers practical, market-linked training combined with entrepreneurship and life skills, ensuring graduates are prepared for both employment and self-employment. Innovation and Inclusion: Pioneered mobile and community-based training models to reach underserved youth, with a particular focus on women and people with disabilities.
  • Green Transition: Integrated training in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, water management, and climate resilience, preparing young people for opportunities in emerging green economies.

Community Impact: Over the years, Humana’s colleges and outreach initiatives have enabled tens of thousands of young people to become entrepreneurs, skilled workers, and local leaders, strengthening resilience and fostering inclusive local growth.
