The Scalabrini Foundation of Mexico is a non-profit organization that is part of the international network of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo (Scalabrinians). It is dedicated to providing care and support to migrants, refugees, and individuals in situations of human mobility. Its work focuses on promoting human rights, social integration, and the well-being of these vulnerable populations. The Scalabrini Foundation was established to strengthen the mission of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians, an international missionary community of religious men. This congregation was founded in Piacenza, Italy, on November 28, 1887, by St. John Baptist Scalabrini, known in the Church and the world as the “Father of Migrants.” The Scalabrinian religious serve migrants, refugees, and seafarers through pastoral care, comprehensive assistance to their needs, and human promotion in 32 countries across five continents. Beneficiary Population: Migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, victims of internal forced displacement, repatriated individuals, seafarers, and low-income fishermen, as well as those belonging to vulnerable groups due to age, gender, or disability. Main Areas of Work: Humanitarian Assistance: We provide immediate support to migrants and refugees by offering shelter, food, medical care, and basic services. The first Casa del Migrante (Migrant House) was established in Tijuana in 1987 by the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians. Since then, they have promoted and advised the creation of other migrant houses and migrant care centers across Mexico and Central America. On March 8, 2000, the “Scalabrini Migrant Houses Network” was formally established with the publication of the document “The Cry of the Undocumented”. This document called on other non-governmental organizations and local churches in Mexico and Guatemala to work together in promoting the comprehensive development of migrants in their human, cultural, social, and spiritual dimensions.
