The Ponesai Vanhu Technical College (PVTC) was established by DAPP Zimbabwe in 1981 to equip vulnerable youth with the right set of skills and entrepreneurial spirit, so that they could find decent jobs and/or create their own enterprises. The centre offers market-driven courses, both short (4 months theory + 4 months job attachments) and long (1 year theory + 1 year job attachments), which are certified by Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) and the Higher Education Examination Council, respectively. All the courses align with Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 framework, focusing on innovation, industrialization, and self-reliance. Boarding facilities accommodate up to 80 students, who combine academic learning with hands-on training in their chosen field, preparing them for both employment and small business development. PVTC emphasizes practical experience, discipline, and community engagement. Students participate in outreach activities in schools, clinics, and local communities, health campaigns, and environmental actions, as well as leadership and teamwork projects that nurture personal growth.
Inclusive, Market‑Driven TVET Pilot (2018–2022): Under an Enabel‑funded partnership, DAPP Zimbabwe led a consortium—including Ponesai Vanhu Technical College, Chaminuka VTC, LCDZ, and BUSE—to pilot a groundbreaking “TVET for All” initiative. The project delivered flexible, short courses in solar technology, ICT, and climate-smart agriculture to 400 disadvantaged youths—including 200 young women and 25 youth with disabilities—across rural areas. By co-designing curricula with private sector input, adapting teaching for inclusivity, and creating pathways to employment, the project enhanced completion rates and transitions into work, while generating lessons for scalable, equitable vocational training models. Ponesai Vanhu Technical College, since its inception, has trained over 7.500 students in various TVET skills. Four of our students have been engaged with the government vocational training college as trainer of trainers, inspiring other youths. The PVTC managed to sign an MoU with local Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) for the accreditation of 7 short courses (period of 8months) Currently we are offering courses for five courses: Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Brick and Block, Confectionery Bakery Studies, Garment Construction and Pattern Making and Beauty Therapy
