The Polytechnic Institutes of Nhamatanda and Nacala Porto, established in 1984 and 1996 respectively by ADPP Mozambique, are pivotal institutions in the country’s vocational education landscape. Located in rural districts of Sofala and Nampula Provinces, these institutes offer three-year vocational training programs in agriculture and other technical areas (L1-L3). These institutes play a crucial role in addressing Mozambique’s developmental challenges by bridging the skills gap in the agricultural job market and enhancing the technical capacities of the agricultural workforce. Their training programs encompass core disciplines such as horticulture, animal husbandry, and pest management, supplemented by complementary subjects like business planning and marketing. Practical training is a key component, with students engaged in fieldwork at demonstration farms. Since their establishment more than 7,200 students have graduated from the different courses, while the same schools have over the last decade offered short courses for approximately 8,000 youths.
