Athens served as the perfect backdrop for the inaugural study visit of the Design Together initiative. Against the backdrop of ancient ruins and modern marvels, European and African partners converged in a shared pursuit of knowledge and collaboration.
Thanks to the meticulously organized itinerary of the visit, participants were treated to immersive tours of four distinct AKMI Vocational Education and Training (VET) schools, each specializing in a unique discipline such as art, tourism, and mechanics. From the vibrant studios of the art school to the bustling workshops of the mechanics program, every aspect of European VET excellence was on display.
For the partners, this experience was an opportunity to immerse themselves in the heart of European VET education. They engaged with students and faculty, witnessed innovative teaching methodologies in action, and gained valuable insights into the integration of theory and practice.
Then, the end of the week was marked by a series of inspiring workshops that delved into key aspects of VET education. Discussions on DACUM methodology provided participants with practical tools for curriculum development, while insights into the Ambassadors Scheme highlighted the importance of fostering leadership within the VET community. The sessions on the nexus between curricula and the Labor market underscored the project’s commitment to ensuring that VET programs are responsive to the evolving needs of industries.
As the visit ended, the exchanges of ideas, the forging of collaboration, and the shared commitment to excellence in VET education laid a strong foundation for future collaboration. Through this study visit in Athens, the Design Together Project had taken a significant step towards realizing its vision of fostering international cooperation and mutual learning in the VET sector.
